Can You Take Photos at Lake Pflugerville? | Austin Family Photographer

Are you wondering, can you take photos at Lake Pflugerville? I was wondering the same thing, so I scouted the location in person, and looked online. Turns out, you can absolutely take photos here!

And if you're looking for family photos with a little “beachy” feel without leaving the Austin area, this is such a unique and pretty location to consider.

I recently met up with a family of four here for photos with their middle school-aged son and daughter. We arrived in the early evening just as golden hour was starting, with people gathering for picnics along the beach and a few kayakers out on the water. It was such a pretty backdrop for their family photos!

What makes photos at Lake Pflugerville a great spot?

One of my favorite things about Lake Pflugerville is the variety. You can get a completely different look just by walking a few minutes around the park.

Here's what I love about taking photos here:

  • Water views: The lake gives you that open, breezy backdrop that's hard to find around Austin.

  • A sandy beach area: Perfect if you want photos with a little "day at the beach" feel.

  • Tall trees and shade: Great for mixing up the backgrounds and giving us some relief from the Texas sun (which can still be a beast, even in early Fall!)

  • Easy parking: There are parking areas nearby, so you don't have to haul your family and all their stuff on a long hike.

  • Clean bathrooms (!!): Always a bonus, especially when you're getting everyone ready for photos.

  • Walking trails and variety: We can move between different backdrops without needing to drive to another location.

And the golden hour light reflecting across the water? SO so pretty. I’m obsessed!

A few things to know before booking photos at Lake Pflugerville…

Of course, no location is perfect. There are a few things I'd want you to know before choosing this spot. Here’s what I’d consider!

  • It can get crowded. Especially on weekends, you'll find families having picnics, people hanging out on the beach, and kayakers out on the lake. I can Photoshop out a stray person in the background, but if the park is really busy, it can limit which spots we use.

  • There is a little walking involved. Some of the best backdrops are within about five minutes of each other, but that can feel like a lot with little kids, especially in the Texas heat. And don't be surprised if a few ducks wander over hoping you'll share your snacks lol

  • Check your route before you leave. There has been construction around some of the park entrances, although the main entrance has been unaffected. Depending on where you're coming from, the drive can also be a little longer.

Is this the right location for your family photos?

If you love the idea of water in the background, want a "day at the beach" vibe without leaving Austin, and love that warm, glowy golden hour look, Lake Pflugerville is a fantastic option.

I'm already dreaming up a full summer session here with a family playing in the sand, enjoying a little beach picnic, and just having fun together. SO many possibilities!
