Texas Bluebonnet Photo Session | Austin Family Photographer
There is just something about a Texas Bluebonnet photo session that feels like a rite of passage if you’re raising kids here. I have photos from my own childhood sitting in the blooms, and I love getting to create that same kind of keepsake for families now.
With wildflower season right around the corner, I’ve been getting excited about our sessions this year!
Last year, the flowers were SO unpredictable and finicky! As a lifelong Texan, last year honestly threw me for a loop. The bluebonnets were late, sparse, and just not doing what they normally do. But we stayed flexible, rescheduled and still got good photos. This year, we got the good freeze, which I swear helps the blooms!
This sweet family signed up for one of my mini session weekends, and it felt extra special because I had photographed their maternity session the year before. Getting to document families over multiple seasons of life is one of my favorite parts of this job. I always feel so honored when my clients return over and over. Capturing your life!! Are you kidding me? Truly honored every time.
The vibe for this session was relaxed and simple. Mom wore a soft, neutral dress that let the flowers be the pop of color. Dad kept it classic with a short sleeve button down and khaki pants. Their baby girl was the real star though. She wore a cozy onesie that we had actually used as a prop during their maternity session. Full circle moment!!
She was happy, calm, and totally content being passed between her parents, grabbing flowers, and taking everything in. We didn’t rush anything. We sat, we played, and we followed her lead. Even with fewer bluebonnets than usual, we still captured images that feel unmistakably Texas.
Texas Bluebonnet Photo Session is a must.
This is where having a guided experience really matters, especially for parents with a high mental load. You don’t need to worry about where to sit, what to do with your hands, or how to get your kids to cooperate. I’ll walk you through all of it. You can just show up, breathe, and be with your people.
Even when the blooms aren’t perfect, the moments still are. These photos aren’t about perfectly posed smiles or endless fields of flowers. They’re about documenting what this season looks like for your family right now. Chubby hands. Big laughs. Quiet snuggles. The way your baby looks at you like you’re her whole world.
We made do with fewer flowers than normal and still created images this family will be able to pull out years from now. It’s a weird, wonderful, special Texas tradition.
If you’re local to Round Rock or Austin and have been thinking about a Texas Bluebonnet Photo Session, consider this your sign. Hopefully the flowers give us those dreamy, dense fields of blooms. But either way, we’re going to get those iconic/amazing/TX-centered photos! If you want to be the first to know about when Bluebonnet minis drop, click here to sign up for my email list!
