Photo Shoot with a Family of Five | Austin Photographer

This family of five showed up to their Fall mini session looking so put together in their sage green and cream outfits. They were the perfect blend of relaxed and intentional. They looked perfect!

The light was good that evening, the weather wasn’t melting us (despite climbing to almost 80 degrees in November. Thanks, Texas!), and the kids walked in excited to shoot. That’s a win in my book! haha

I picked a location with lots of trees, to provide us that filter and shade while the sun was pretty high. I was shooting all afternoon this day, so I got a lot of versatility as the sun set further with each mini session. And these specific types of trees are so quintessential to central Texas, I loved the specific nod to our area in the background.

We had so much fun at this session, with this family of five!

I’ve photographed this crew before, back when the boys were really little. The first time I photographed them, I wasn’t a mom yet myself! So getting to see them again was really fun! The boys jumped in with smiles, and were eager to see the back of the camera after each shot. Little sister was absolutely adorable (this was the dress she wore!), and we followed her 2-year-old lead.

At this age, they don’t really know what’s going on, and are just having fun. So we roll with it! We moved around, let her explore, turned on her favorite songs on my speaker, and she did great. And yes, we used the “mini session snack basket” which I bring loaded with fruit snacks and goldfish. It’s a great way to pull your little one back into the session, because their attention spans are short.

Sessions like this one, with this family of five, remind me why I love taking photos for other moms.

If you’re in this stage of life, you get it. You show up with the last minute Amazon orders in tow,, hope the kids cooperate, and just roll with whatever happens. This fam was the definition of embracing the session. They didn’t try to force perfect smiles. Didn’t get stressed when someone wandered off. They just… existed as a family, and I photographed it. That’s really all family photos need to be, in my book!

It was also cool getting to reconnect with a family I’ve photographed before. Seeing how the kids have grown and how their personalities have changed is one of the best parts of this job. It’s like watching a tiny time capsule unfold in real time.
