Superhero Best Friend Shoot | Austin Family Photographer
This superhero best friend shoot was one of the most chaotic and hilarious ideas we’ve had in a while, and honestly I loved every second. Our kids have been besties since they were babies, so seeing them in their superhero costumes felt very on brand for this stage of life. If your kids are anything like ours, you already know they’ll wear these costumes to the grocery store if you let them.
We kept it simple. A bright studio, four hyped-up kids, and a pile of superhero suits. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Hulk… You name it, someone was wearing it. The boys immediately went into full character and started posing like they were saving the world before I even got my camera settings ready. It was loud, we played their favorite music and brought them snacks. It was silly. It was perfect.
Why You Should Do a Superhero Best Friend Shoot
If you’ve ever thought about doing something different for kid portraits, a creative shoot like this might be the move. Kids don’t hide who they are at this age. They’re not worried about smiling a certain way or standing still. They just want to have fun. Leaning into that makes the best photos.
We let them run around and be wild for a bit, and the energy in the room was unmatched. Every single kid felt like the star of their own movie. You could see it in their faces. That full-body joy that only small kids seem to have.
And once they got the superhero wiggles out, we switched to a few regular portraits. Just neutral tees, jeans, and their natural little personalities. These ended up being some of my favorite photos from the whole day. Kids relaxed and giggly from running around. Zero pressure. Zero posing. Just genuine best friends being themselves.
Sessions like this feel special because you know these are the memories they’ll grow up and laugh about.
One day they’ll be teenagers, and dealing with real life. But these photos will still exist. A tiny time capsule of who they were before the world got big.
If you want to plan a session that feels fun and true to this season, I’m all in. A costume shoot is always a yes from me, but I’m also dying to do a paint day or a playground hang. These are the good years, and they deserve to be documented. Let me know if you want your own version of this superhero best friend shoot. Reach out here!
